Reception - The Three Little Pigs
Today, we went on an exciting clue hunt around our school to introduce our new story for this half term.
The children worked together to find and collect sticks, bricks and straw, using baskets to gather the clues. Once we had collected everything, we came together for a circle-time discussion. We talked about what we had found, what the different materials might be used for, and what we thought our new story could be about.
The children then used their imaginations to draw what they thought the story might be, making predictions based on the clues they had discovered.
We had lots of fantastic ideas and can't wait to find out if our predictions are correct!
Year 1 - The Bog Baby

To begin our new English story, 1AP went on an exciting adventure to the pond for our ‘Hook’ lesson. While exploring, we made a very surprising discovery… Bog Babies! The children were fascinated by the mysterious little creatures and couldn’t wait to share their ideas, ask questions and make predictions. What a magical way to introduce our new story, The Bog Baby!

As part of our ‘Hook’ lesson in English, 1ND headed outside to explore the school pond and discovered some very special visitors… Bog Babies! This exciting discovery created lots of curiosity and questions, linking perfectly to our new story, The Bog Baby. The children were eager to investigate, make predictions, and find out more about these mysterious little creatures!
Year 2 - The Selfish Giant
During the hook lesson in Year 2 we focused on our class text ‘The Selfish Giant’. The class were submerged into the text by looking into the meaning of 'Trespassers will be proscecuted'. Giant footprints were found outside of the Year 2 classrooms, where had they come from?
The class then stepped into the picture while listening to sections of the story with a focus on explaining their own thoughts and feelings and explaining the setting that they had stepped into.
Year 4 - Matilda

Comparing Characters in Matilda. The children compared the characters Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey, discussing their different personalities and actions in the story. They then created puppets and used them to act out scenes from Matilda, helping them bring the characters to life and develop their understanding of characterisation in a fun and creative way.
Year 5 - How to Train Your Dragon
Today in Year 5, we looked at our first love for reading book: How to Train Your Dragon. Our first genre of writing is a character description, so we drew our own Viking characters, exploring our physical traits and personality. We then made our pictures come to life by making Viking masks!
Year 6 - Wonder
Our Year 6 English hook for Wonder began with a mystery! The children imagined and drew what they believed their “model” student would look like, considering the qualities and characteristics they thought this person might have. The excitement grew when they were introduced to Auggie, the mystery student from Wonder. They discussed the similarities and differences between their drawings and Auggie, reflecting on the qualities they had associated with an ideal student and considering how first impressions can influence the way we see others.
