Nursery – The Enormous Crocodile

Nursery have been exploring the story of The Enormous Crocodile. They have been practising their prediction skills by trying to guess what the crocodile would disguise himself as next. In the afternoon we did lots of craft activities making some snapping crocodiles. We also enjoyed sharing a book with our parents/carers

Morning – Story Sequencing

• Ordering picture cards from the story.
• Retell what happens at the sweet shop.
• Orally summarise: beginning, middle, end.
• Outcome: Simple story map or oral retell.

Afternoon Craft: we created our own sweet shops and even went to our own shop to buy sweets

Year 1

For World Book Day, Year 1 had an amazing morning reading The Twits and creating a wanted poster of Mr Twitt. We used lots of ambitious vocabulary using vocabulary Victor to describe Mr Twitt. We then had a messy, exciting craft afternoon creating our own revolting Mr Twitt beards. We used spaghetti, cornflakes, leaves and wool to make our creations.

Year 2

For World Book Day, the children have been learning about Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. They read parts of the story and discussed the characters and events. The children then completed a comprehension activity to show their understanding of the text. They also wrote a short diary entry from the point of view of Mr Fox, thirking about how he might feel and what he experienced in the story.

In the afternoon, the children took part in some creative activities. They made fox head crafts using different materials and colours. The children also worked together to build tunnels that Mr Fox could escape through, linking their craft work to the events in the story. The activities helped the children to use their imagination while exploring the story in a fur and creative way.

Year 3

Year 3 have had a ‘scrumductous’ time celebrating World Book Day. Our focus text for the day was ‘The BFG’ by Roald Dahl.We used our ‘Vocabulary Victor’ skills to explore Gobblefunk words creat-ed by Roald Dahl. We spent the morning exploring the gobblefunk words used by Dahl within the text, we then created our own gobblefunk words with our own defini-tions. This was lots fun and very funny! Afterwards, we used this new vocabulary to describe our own dreams in dream jars.

Year 4

Year 4 enjoyed celebrating World Book Day through activities based on Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl. The children discussed the issue of pheasant poaching in the story and took part in a balanced argument, considering both sides of the debate.They then wrote persuasive letters to Danny, encouraging him to stop poaching and explaining their reasons. In the afternoon, the children completed a creative art activity, making silhouettes of pheasants linked to the story.It was a fun and engaging day that combined reading, discussion, writing, and art.

Year 5

We have enjoyed an enthralling World Book Day 2026 in Year 5. We have loved seeing all of our friends' outfits and props and have enjoyed finding about everyone's favourite books, authors and characters.

This morning we looked at how Roald Dahl builds tension and suspense in his story: 'The Witches'. We have then applied these skills in our very own setting descriptions. In the afternoon, we have enjoyed making witch masks - to hide out true identity, just as the witches in the story did.

Year 6

In Year 6, we researched information about Roald Dahl, focussing on his childhood. We looked at key events he experienced and linked them to the different stories that he had written. From this, we wrote an independent reflective memoir to document how a significant childhood event has shaped who we are today. We also created a memory suitcase to share some of our most significant memories during primary school.

Year 5 buddies, proud and kind,

Big ones guiding, little ones too —

In Year 1 we had a lovely surprise,
For Old Bear with wide, excited eyes!
We shared a tea party, cakes on our plate,
Then story-mapped the tale — it was great!
We drew each part from start to end,
Old Bear’s adventure with every friend!

Year 4 are reading buddies, helping Year 1 to grow,
Using phonics, sounding words, and letting confidence show.
We share our books and stories, make reading lots of fun,
Building skills and love for books for everyone!
