Educational Visits

Our Year 2 children recently experienced their very first overnight residential at Standon Bowers Outdoor Education Centre—an exciting milestone in their school journey. For many, this was their first time staying away from home, and they approached the adventure with remarkable bravery and enthusiasm. During their stay, the children took part in a range of outdoor activities designed to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience. They challenged themselves with bouldering, carefully navigating climbing routes while supporting and encouraging one another. On the low ropes course, they worked together to balance, problem-solve, and overcome obstacles just above the ground.

One of the most memorable experiences was caving, where the children explored dark, narrow spaces and discovered their inner courage. They also took part in blindfolded trail activities, which helped develop trust, communication, and cooperation as they guided each other safely through the course.

In the evening, the children gathered around a campfire where they toasted marshmallows together, followed by hot chocolate and biscuits before bedtime—an experience many of them will remember fondly. Spending the night away from home was a huge achievement in itself. The children showed independence, maturity, and a positive attitude, making the experience both enjoyable and rewarding for everyone involved. We are incredibly proud of how our Year 2 pupils embraced every challenge, supported one another, and created lasting memories during this special trip.
