For the love of reading text
George and the Dragon
Our ‘For the Love of Reading’ focus this half term is ‘George and the Dragon’. We will be using the text to create story maps to support us with orally rehearsing the text, writing letters from George to the princess and immersing ourselves through imagination into the text in order to write our own narrative.
White Rose Maths
This half term we will be learning about Statistics as well as Position and Direction.
Geography/ History
In this History unit, the children be looking at ‘Kings and Queens’. The children will travel back in time to learn about British Monarchs from Queen Victoria to modern day. They will create a timeline of important Monarchs and research Queen Victoria’s family history and the lives of significant Royal individuals who have contributed to achievements. Finally, the children will look into modem day Monarchs and how the Monarch is adapting to change
Science
Our topic in science for this half term is Animals Including Humans. The children will learn about and be able to describe the importance for humans to exercise as well as eating and drinking the right amounts of different types of food and water. Finally we will look at hygiene and how to keep clean.
PSHE/RSE/ RE
In PSHE we will be looking how to recognise our feelings. We will be able to name and recognise a range of feelings and know what makes us feel good and this can impact our behaviours. The children will look at how different experiences can affect people in different ways and how we can share feelings with people we trust.
In RE we will be looking at ‘What makes some places scared to believers?’. We will be recognising that there are special places where people go to worship and talk about what people do there. The children will be able to identify objects used in worship in different religions.
Art/ D & T/ Music
Our artist for this half term is ‘Guiseppe Arcrimboldo’. Children will be using colour on a large scale and experimenting with different tools and surfaces.
In D&T we are learning about cooking and nutrition and what makes a balanced diet. The children will make and evaluate their own healthy wrap.
In music this half term we will be ‘Reflecting, Rewinding and Replaying’.
PE day
Our PE days are a Wednesday and Friday. We will be focussing on Throwing and Catching this half term as well as building relationships with friends.
Spellings/ Reading
We follow All aboard for phonics spellings and spelling rules- focussing on: The /v/ sound spelt o in the middle of words. The words ending /il/ sound, words containing the /dg/ sound, the /s/ sound spelt c before e, i and y and finally common exception words and recapping the spellings from the year.

Little Evie in the Wild Wood
Our ‘For the Love of Reading’ focus this half term is ‘Little Evie in the Wild Wood’. We will be using the story to describe nocturnal animals and as a starting point to writing our own stories in the first person all about creeping through the woods!

This half term we will be learning about Fractions and Time.
Geography/ History
In this History unit, the children be looking at ‘Our Local Heroes’.
We will be looking at what makes a hero, and identify some local heroes from the past. We will be using images, objects and documents as sources to find out about people from the past. Finally we will decide who we think the greatest local hero is based on our findings.
Science
Our topic in science for this half term is plants. We will be observing and describing how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. We will find out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy.
Educational Visit
We will be visiting Standon Bowers for our class residential.
PSHE/RSE/ RE
In PHSE we will be looking at what helps us to stay safe. We will be looking at what helps us to grow and stay healthy.
In RE we will be looking at ‘What does it mean to belong to a faith community?’ We will recognise that loving others is important in lots of communities and how Jesus taught his community to love one another.
Art/ D & T/ Music
Our artist for this half term is ‘Guiseppe Arcrimboldo’. Children will be exploring and making repeating, overlapping, regular and irregular patterns.
In D&T we are learning about cooking and nutrition and what makes a balanced diet. The children will develop their own healthy wrap.
Our song for this half term is the ‘Friendship Song’ by Joanna Mangona and Pete Readman.
PE day
Our PE days are a Wednesday and Friday. We will be focussing on active athletics and diet and vitamins.

We follow All aboard for phonics spellings and spelling rules- focussing on: The /r/ sound spelt wr at the beginning of words. The /aɪ/ sound spelt -y at the end of words, adding -es to nouns and verbs ending in –y, the / Ͻ:/ sound spelt a before l and ll and continue working through the exception words list.
Spring 2

Flat Stanley ‘Flat Again’- Jeff Brown
Stanley is back and he is flat again. Even his brother Arthur can’t come up with a plan to re-inflate Stanley this time.
Children will be writing a diary entry as if they are Stanley, a narrative in the first person and poetry focusing on riddles.

This half term we will be learning about Length and height and Mass, capacity and temperature.
Geography/ History
In this Geography unit, the children be looking at our big question—What does our landscape look like?
We will be looking at the physical geography of the UK’s beaches, cliffs, coasts, seas, oceans hills, mountains, forests, valleys, rivers and vegetation. We will also identify and describe the world’s highest mountain and the major rivers in different continents of the world.
Science
Our topic in science for this half term is habitats. We will be learning about and comparing the difference between habitats and micro-habitats by observing the natural world.
Educational Visit
We will be visiting Deep Hayes Country Park to observe and identify the physical features of our surroundings.
PSHE/RSE/ RE
In PHSE we will be looking at what helps us to stay safe. We will be looking at staying safe at home, school and the community.
In RE we will be looking at ‘what is the good news Christians believe Jesus brings?’ We will be exploring ways in which Christians try to bring Jesus to others and talking about forgiveness.
Art/ D & T/ Music
Our artist for this half term is ‘Clarice Cliff’. Children will be making and decorating their own clay pots inspired by Clarice Cliff.
In D&T we are continuing our topic on mechanisms. The children will be making and evaluating their own moving monster.
Our song for this half term is ‘Zoo time’. In the style of reggae by Joanna Mangona.
PE day
Our PE days are a Wednesday and Friday. We will be focusing on ball skills and gym fit circuits.

We follow All aboard for phonics spellings and spelling rules- focusing on: The possessive apostrophe. Adding -ed, -ing, -er and -est to a root word ending in -y with a consonant before it. Adding the endings -ing, -ed, -er, -est and -y to words ending in -e with a consonant before it. Adding -ed, -ing, -er, -est and -y to words of one syllable ending in a single consonant letter after a single vowel letter. Exceptions word list.
Spring 1
Our Wonderful World
Our topic this half term is a Geography based topic - Our Wonderful World. We will be looking at towns, villages and cities and will be comparing the key features and learning how to identify whether areas are towns, villages or cities. We will also be looking Ports and Harbours in the UK.
In Science we will be learning about living things. Our love of reading focus this half term is ‘Traction Man is Here’. We will be learning how to write a character description and will be sequencing, planning, writing and editing adventure stories.
In Maths we will be learning multiplication and division. We will be using and applying our skills in different types of mathematical problems.
Our role-play this half term will continue to be a museum linked to our Geography topic.
Autumn 2
The Great Fire of London
Our topic this half term is a History based topic - In this History unit children will explore a very important event ‘The Great Fire of London, the children will investigate how the fire started, whether it could have been prevented and the sequence of events that occurred. Through this topic the children will take part in drama based activities as well as group discussions. In Science we will be investigating every day materials.
Our English focus this half term is ‘Little Polar Bear and the Big Balloon’. We will be exploring the story and writing non-chronological reports about the animals in the story. Later we will plan, write and edit our very own Christmas adventure stories.
In Maths we will be learning about addition and subtraction, and investigating properties of shape.
Autumn 1
WEATHER AND SEASONS: What are our seasons and the weather like around the world?
Our topic this half term is a Geography based topic - Seasons. We will be asking the key question - ‘What are the Seasons?’ and will be looking at seasonal daily weather patterns in the UK. We will begin to explore the world and why some countries are hotter or colder than others. We will then link this to more daily weather changes around the world. In Science we will learn about animals including humans. Our English ‘For the Love of Reading’ focus this half term is ‘The Selfish Giant’. We will be looking at different elements such as the characters and the setting, and then sequencing and writing the story. We will also be writing letters to the giant and other characters in the story. In Maths we will be learning about number and place value, addition and subtraction.
