George and the Dragon
Our ‘For the Love of Reading’ focus this half term is ‘George and the Dragon’. We will be using the text to create story maps to support us with orally rehearsing the text, writing letters from George to the princess and immersing ourselves through imagination into the text in order to write our own narrative.

This half term we will be learning about Statistics as well as Position and Direction.
Geography/ History
In this History unit, the children be looking at ‘Kings and Queens’. The children will travel back in time to learn about British Monarchs from Queen Victoria to modern day. They will create a timeline of important Monarchs and research Queen Victoria’s family history and the lives of significant Royal individuals who have contributed to achievements. Finally, the children will look into modem day Monarchs and how the Monarch is adapting to change
Science
Our topic in science for this half term is Animals Including Humans. The children will learn about and be able to describe the importance for humans to exercise as well as eating and drinking the right amounts of different types of food and water. Finally, we will look at hygiene and how to keep clean.
Educational Visit
PSHE/RSE/ RE
In PSHE we will be looking how to recognise our feelings. We will be able to name and recognise a range of feelings and know what makes us feel good and this can impact our behaviours. The children will look at how different experiences can affect people in different ways and how we can share feelings with people we trust.
In RE we will be looking at ‘What makes some places scared to believers?’. We will be recognising that there are special places where people go to worship and talk about what people do there. The children will be able to identify objects used in worship in different religions.
Art/ D & T/ Music
Our artist for this half term is ‘Guiseppe Arcrimboldo’. Children will be using colour on a large scale and experimenting with different tools and surfaces.
In D&T we are learning about cooking and nutrition and what makes a balanced diet. The children will make and evaluate their own healthy wrap.
In music this half term we will be ‘Reflecting, Rewinding and Replaying’.

PE day
Our PE days are a Wednesday and Friday. We will be focussing on Throwing and Catching this half term as well as building relationships with friends.

We follow All aboard for phonics spellings and spelling rules- focussing on: The /v/ sound spelt o in the middle of words. The words ending /il/ sound, words containing the /dg/ sound, the /s/ sound spelt c before e, i and y and finally common exception words and recapping the spellings from the year.

Little Evie in the Wild Wood by Jackie Morris
Little Evie ventures into the wild woods with her basket of jam tarts and walks further and further into the trees, far from home. In a deep dark cave she finds a huge wolf. The wolf comes closer and closer and then Evie and the wolf share the tarts, sitting on the grass
Children will be writing a non-fiction animal description and a diary entry of personal experience

We will be looking time. The children will be telling the time past the hour, to the hour and to 5 minutes.

Geography
In this Geography unit, the children be looking at our big question—Where would you like to live?
We will be looking using key human features to identify cities, towns and villages.
We will use maps and atlases to identify they key human features of the United Kingdom’s ports and harbours.
Science
Plants
Our topic in science for this half term is plants. We will be observing and describing how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants. We will be finding out and describing what plants need to grow and stay healthy.
Educational Visit
We will be going to Standon Bowers for a 2-day residential, where we will have the opportunity to try many new activities.

PSHE
In PHSE we will be looking at what helps us grow and stay healthy.
We will be looking at the importance of what we eat, the amount of sleep we need and keeping safe in the sun.
RE
In RE we will be looking at ‘What does it mean to belong to a faith community?’ We will be exploring ways in which we belong in a community.

Art
Our artist for this half term is ‘Guiseppe Arcimboldo.
Children will be experimenting by arranging, repeating, overlapping, regular and irregular pattern and using overlapping and overlaying to create effects.
DT
In D&T we are starting our topic on cooking and nutrition and focussing on a balanced diet. The children will be learning about the food groups to understand a balanced diet.

Stanley is back and he is flat again. Even his brother Arthur can’t come up with a plan to re-inflate Stanley this time. Children will be writing narrative.

Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch by David Armitage
Children will be immersing themselves into, and using role play to understand the story. Through the text the children will learn all about Mr and Mrs Grinling’s plan to stop the seagulls from stealing their lunch. We even meet their pet cat Hamish along the way! We will be writing a narrative for the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch.

We will then be describing how animals obtain their food from plants and other animals, using the idea of a simple food chain, and identify and name different sources of food.

When Hansel and Gretel find themselves lost in the forest, their discovery of a cottage made of sweet treats is a welcome surprise. But the owner is not so sweet! How will they escape?
Children will be writing for entertainment through sequencing and retelling. We will also focus on instruction writing.

We will be asking the key question - ‘Could the Great Fire of London have been prevented?’ We will be looking at sequencing the events of the fire through drama and roleplay. We will also be focusing on why the fire spread and how we know so much about the fire. We will finish with exploring whether the fire could have been prevented.

Our topic in science for this half term is uses of everyday materials. We will be exploring the suitability of a variety of everyday materials for different uses and sorting them into categories based on whether they can squash, bend, stretch or twist.
